Hello U10 & U12 parents,

Well the season is nearly upon us. There is a base of snow building on the higher slopes of Seymour and Whistler will be open in a few weeks. Time to start getting ready to hit the slopes.

I have a few bits of info to pass on to all of you. First up… calendars:

Club Calendars

The club maintains a set of calendars which can be found on the club’s website (http://mtseymourskiclub.com/calendars/). It is very important that you check the calendar regularly as training, races and other special events will be posted here and details and dates can change from time to time.

U12 Calendar – http://mtseymourskiclub.com/calendars/k-star-calendar/
U 10 Calendar – http://mtseymourskiclub.com/calendars/nancy-greene-calendar/

I am in the middle of adding training and events to the calendar so it will be changing quite a bit over the next few days.

Mud Run

This coming Saturday (November 9th) we will be running the infamous Mud Run in Stanley Park. This tight SL/GS course will force runners to navigate slick grass, forested terrain and many off-camber corners. As always, the fastest runner to the bottom wins.

What to bring:
– running shoes
– layered clothing
– water
– towels
– a full change of clothing

Be prepared to get very wet and, if the weather cooperates, very muddy. If you don’t go down it means you weren’t running fast enough!

Dry Land Training

I would really like to see more of our U12 (and U10) members at dry land training. This is the best time to get to know your fellow racers and the coaches before we hit the slopes early next month. Training is fun and challenging and it will make you a better skier if you work hard. There rare no additional fees if you have already registered for the 2013/2014 season.

We train Tuesdays and Thursdays at Mahon Park 6:00-7:30 and Saturday Mornings at Brockton Oval in Stanley Park 10:00-12:00. All training dates can be found on the calendars.

Grade 4/5 Snow Pass

Are you a parent of a child born in 2003 or 2004? Does your child have a Snow Pass? if the answer is no please check it out. The Snow Pass grants it’s holder three lift tickets for each participating ski hill (including Whistler, Sun Peaks and Mt. Washington). Please visit http://www.skicanada.org/grade-4-5-snowpass/ for more information.

U12 Whistler Training / EDGE Cards

I will be running a number of extra training days for the U12’s up in Whistler over the first few weeks of December as well as a day or two over the Christmas Holidays. There may also be a few extra days over the season – possibly on pro-d days. With that in mind I would highly recommend looking into an Edge Card for your child if you think they will be coming out for one or more of these days.

Prices for the pass range from $41 to $339 depending on the number of days you preload. After your pre-purchased days are used, you will be charged a discounted daily lift ticket rate for each day you ski or ride. Another big advantage to the Edge Card is that you can tie it to a credit card which means no more ticket window lines… straight to the lift.

Early Bird rates end November 25.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Email is probably your best bet but you can give me a call if it is a life or death question. There will be way more info over the next couple of weeks especially for the U12’s. Stay tuned and make sure to check the calendars regularly!

Cheers,
